Mission Farmer Program

About the Mission Farmer Program

Old School Farm is a care farm that exists to provide supportive and positive employment opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. We do this by hiring “mission farmers” to work alongside our staff to grow and share food with our community. Through our partnership with MillarRich, we are able to connect with adults who require special assistance in work environments and introduce them to regenerative farming. We believe in the therapeutic benefits of farming and have firsthand experience watching our mission farmers grow and blossom as they interact with the land.

Mission farmers receive a rich education in organic farming practices. They learn about crop rotation, cover cropping, minimal soil disturbances, crop diversification, composting and more as we work the land to grow natural, beautiful produce. Our staff also likes to learn about each farmer’s unique abilities and interests, and we try to incorporate their gifts into their work at the farm.

In addition to farming, our mission farmers learn how to preserve produce and fresh herbs through processes such as drying, canning, infusing and fermenting. Our goal is to teach the mission farmers how they can preserve the spring, summer and fall harvest bounties to share with others throughout the whole year.
